Description
Bergamot essential oil is made from the peel of the bitter bergamot orange, Citrus bergamia, which is mainly grown in the special climate and soil of Calabria, Italy. It is famously used as a flavor in the popular Earl Grey tea. The name Bergamot comes from the city Bergamo in Lombardy, where the oil was first sold.
Just as the fruit is thought to be a hybrid of lemon and orange, the scent combines the sharp, refreshing zest of lemon with the mellow sweetness of orange, giving an energy boost and relieving stress and anxiety.
The subtle spicy and resinous undertones add depth and complexity and make this essential oil widely used in perfumery. If you want to create your own scents or massage oil, it blends well with Lavender, Rose Geranium, Rosemary, and Ylang Ylang.
The oil has antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties and may assist with skin ailments. It can also be used as insect repellent. The juice or fruit extract contains antioxidants that may help reduce cholesterol and blood sugar.
Keep away from sunlight, and avoid exposure to sunlight after applying to skin until the oil is absorbed.
